Brisbane, Queensland, Australia

It just occurred to me that I have yet to blog about the city I’m living in so…here goes….

Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, or Brissie for short, is the capitol city of Queensland. Like America, Australia is divided into states, though not near as many. I’m living in the state of Queensland, the second largest state. Brissie has a population of 1.8 million making it slightly larger than Dallas. I’m living in the area of Brissie called South Bank. It’s on the south side of Brisbane and has lots of cool restaurants, museums, and things to do. Below is a slideshow of some pictures from around.

One thing I’ve noticed about Brissie is the beautiful architecture. Below is a picture of one building, but it looks like three!

Here, the two main grocery stores are Cole’s and Woolworth’s. I typically go to Cole’s because it’s also by Target, but today I’m going to venture over to Woolworth’s which is by Big W (aka Australian Walmart). Animal welfare, like in the States, is a big deal here. Below is a slideshow of pictures I took at the grocery store. Notice the packaging. Also, they have a great Australian Grown campaign and Tim Tams are the biscuits (cookies) everyone loves here. I have to admit…they’re pretty tasty!

I ventured out to Racecourse Road which is on the other side of Brissie for a winter festival. It was really fun! They had a lantern parade and I had a potato swirl, fresh squeezed lemonade, and a sticky date cupcake with butterscotch icing. They were all delicious!

Brissie also has this random Ferris wheel. I was gonna ride it, but it’s expensive! Besides, it’s way more fun to ride a Ferris wheel at the fair. It’s really pretty all lit up at night though!

Finally, Australian money is really cool! It’s colorful and plastic so it’s not as gross as American money. They also use coins for $1, $2, 50 cents, 20 cents, 10 cents and 5 cents. No pennies here! 🙂

I’m gonna try to post some more things this week. I’m really excited because I’m getting to go to Gympie for a regional meeting Wednesday and Thursday. It’s two hours away. Stay tuned!
