I Walk to Work

Standard

Believe it or not, I’m very fortunate to be close enough to walk to work every day. Most of the other interns in Brisbane have to ride the bus about an hour each way! Yes, I could ride a bus, but by walking I’m saving money and let’s be honest…I could use the exercise. 🙂 It’s about a 30 minute walk and it’s absolutely gorgeous! The other day I took pictures along the way so I’ll take you through my commute. When I get to the end of Tribune Street (the street I live on) I end up here near the Brisbane River in South Bank (the part of Brisbane I live in). The next few photos showcase my walk to the bridge. 20130609-132839.jpg 20130609-132854.jpg 20130609-132910.jpg If I’m lucky, I’ll see ducks in the little pond to the left. The other morning there was even some baby ducks. 🙂 20130609-132923.jpg 20130609-132941.jpg At least if it rains, I’ll have cover for quite a bit of my walk! 20130609-132950.jpg Then I come to the Goodwill Bridge over the Brisbane River. 20130609-133006.jpg 20130609-133017.jpg Here’s the view of the east side. 20130609-133049.jpg Here’s the view of the west side which is my favorite view. You can see all the buildings in the cityscape. 20130609-133030.jpg Once I’m off the bridge, I’m on the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) campus. There’s currently some construction going on like there is at all universities so I have to dodge that. There’s a big hill I go up and then a place called Burger Urge. That’s when I know I’m in the right spot. I’m gonna try that place before I leave. It looks so cool! 20130609-133103.jpg Then I enter the botanical gardens. Holy cow it’s so pretty! Makes me think I’m not walking in a city of several millions of people. The next several pictures showcase some of the vegetation. And yes, those are poinsettias! 20130609-133113.jpg 20130609-133142.jpg 20130609-133153.jpg 20130609-133201.jpg 20130609-133219.jpg For those who know me, you know I’m slightly terrified of birds. These are the birds they have here. It’s called an Ibis. I pray that it doesn’t attack me one day! Look at the beak on these suckers! 20130609-133121.jpg There’s big, crazy looking trees too! It’s a type of fig tree. 20130609-185542.jpg 20130609-185611.jpg 20130609-133232.jpg 20130609-185600.jpg Once I’m through the botanical garden, I’m on Albert Street. 20130609-133249.jpg Luckily, the beautiful greenery doesn’t stop at the botanical garden. There’s trees and plants all throughout the city! 20130609-133301.jpg Up a block is the intersection of Albert and Margaret Streets. 20130609-133312.jpg Then one more block up is the intersection of Albert and Mary Streets. AgForce is off of Mary Street. Also, notice how the signs to stores and eateries along the way face the people walking. It’s fantastic because you don’t have to put a crick in your neck trying to find a particular place reading the signs in the stores. Oh, and Subway’s are everywhere here. 20130609-133336.jpg 20130609-133326.jpg 20130609-133348.jpg Then I come to my building and have to take the lift up to level two. 20130609-133359.jpg I made it to AgForce! 🙂 20130609-133410.jpg I hope you enjoy the walk as much as I do! 😉
